Sport @ our School
1. You’ll be healthier.
It’s a commonly known fact that exercise is good for your health. According to research, physical activity helps manage weight, reduces the risk diseases, improves mood, strengthens bones and muscles, boosts energy and promotes better sleep. The health benefits of taking part in a sport or being physically active far outweigh the worry of injury.
2. You’ll be smarter.
Many studies reveal that playing sports can actually boost your brainpower. A report from the Institute of Medicine stated: “Children who are more active show greater attention, have faster cognitive processing speed, and perform better on standardised academic tests than children who are less active”. Exercise increases blood flow to the brain which stimulates brain activity. Playing games requires you to make quick decisions, keeping your mind sharp and alert.
3. You’ll make friends.
When you join a sports team, you are sharing a common interest with other people. Because teammates share the ups and downs of their games, have many fun moments together, your friendships should last long after you finish playing.
4. You learn to work as part of a team.
In sports, individuals learn to rely on each other and motivate one another to accomplish a common goal. Sport teaches you to play fairly and to respect others. There is a place for everyone, the leader, the hard worker, the supporter and the one who tries their best for the sake of the team. A good attitude and sporting behaviour to the opposing team, whether you win or lose a game, is a trait that will stand to you far beyond sport.
