Today we welcomed Minister for Education, Ms. Norma Foley T.D. to Coláiste Iascaigh to officially open the school extension. This was an incredible day from beginning to end. The student council greeted Minister Foley and brought her to the school courtyard where all school members and invited guests were gathered and enjoyed some superb traditional music played by some of our students. Cathaoirleach Councillor Michael Clarke welcomed Minister Foley to the school. Speakers at the event included MSLETB Chair Cllr Mary Bohan, MSLETB Chief Executive Tom Grady, Minister Norma Foley and School Principal Mr. Coggins concluded the event. Student council representatives presented Minister Foley with a beautiful piece of local pottery and flowers, thanking her for her visit to the school. The Minister visited classrooms and engaged with the students, discussing teaching and learning at Coláiste Iascaigh. She was incredibly impressed with the students engagement and ability to communicate so effectively on topics they are studying. This can be attributed to the high quality of teaching and learning which takes place in our classrooms daily. We are incredibly lucky to have such hardworking, dedicated and passionate teachers who are committed to go that extra mile for all our students. Before leaving, Minister Foley raised The Green Schools Flag with the help of the Green Schools Committee and expressed her delight to visit the Marine Ambassador School of the year. The school is growing and going from strength to strength, this would not be possible without your support as Parents / Guardians, choosing Coláiste Iascaigh as your child’s Post Primary school. Thank you to all members of our school community who rallied together in preperation and delivery of this incredibly special day, we are so grateful and lucky to have such support. Finishing off the day, a massive thanks to Blair Feeney, Dromore West for giving every student a 99 ice cream, definitely deserved as you were a credit to the school today, and every other day!!! No better way to go into the weekend. Coláiste Iascaigh, a pillar of school excellence.
